The Oswestry captain was not originally selected for Sunday’s Unicorns Trophy clash against Staffordshire at Himley. But after a late call to replace the injured Jack Edwards, Clarke hit an unbeaten 107 to help the county clinch a quarter-final tie away to Norfolk.

“Without a doubt it was my best day in a Shropshire shirt,” he said.

“It was a surprise to play anyway, and then to do that was pretty special.

“(Skipper) Steve (Leach) said ‘play with positive intent and go out and enjoy it’ and that’s what I did.

“In the one-day game you have to take a few risks, if you don’t you can find yourself being quite negative.

“The boys at the end batted really well and they deserve credit as well. I backed (No.11) Jack (Twigger) and he did the job. I enjoyed it and we’ll see what happens now for the next game.”
