The former Shropshire all-rounder has returned briefly to England for his brother Tom’s wedding after emigrating to Australia four years ago.

And he answered a call to arms from his other brother, captain Sam, to play with the Cricket Meadow men light on numbers.

It proved an inspired decision from Sam as Jono took 3-39 and then hit an unbeaten 69. He helped restrict Wellington to 232-8 at Cricket Meadow with Neil Edwards hitting 56 and Dan Lloyd 45.

Opener Sam Whitney (37) and No.3 Ryan Lockley (44) gave Bridgnorth a solid start to their reply before three wickets from Martin Delaney reduced them to 95-4.

But Jono then joined forces with Gareth Mumford (62) in a 132-run fifth-wicket partnership to steer Bridgnorth to victory.

Shifnal are sitting pretty in second place following a 20-run victory against Attock.

Shropshire pair Charlie Home (90) and Jack McIver (40) added 99 for the third wicket while Jack Edwards (34) and Anthony Parker (39) shared an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 79 as Shifnal rattled up 284-6.

Another Shropshire Minor Counties man, Alex Wyatt, then took 3-65 as Attock ended on 264-8.
