Gurman Randhawa happy to lead Shropshire
Shropshire's professional Gurman Randhawa believes there are four players who could take up the captaincy if Anthony Parker's reign is to be short-lived.
Parker is likely to stand down after the end of their Minor Counties Championship Western Division home game against Herefordshire at Shifnal.
The wicketkeeper's work commitments with his now job as assistant head groundsman at Wolves will affect his availability to play cricket.
Randhawa, signed from Yorkshire in the winter, has thrown his hat into the ring but does not feel he's the only contender.
The left-arm spinner pointed to batsman James Ralph and all-rounders Ben Sanderson and Neil Saker as skipper material among his team-mates.
Randhawa said: "I would be happy to take over the captaincy, if it becomes available, but I am still a young guy and the opportunity has to come my way.
"There are a few more experienced lads in the side, as Shropshire is one of the biggest Minor Counties out there. There has been a lot of talent come through.
"In that instance, it's up to the selectors to decide but we have James Ralph there, who has played probably more than 100 games for Shropshire.
"Ben Sanderson and Neil Saker have both played a lot of first-class cricket, so we are not short of people who are capable of doing it.
"It would be an honour to have captaincy, but I reckon there are others who could step up to the mark as well, if that's what required."
Randhawa insists he's enjoying his time with the county, despite a difficult start which could leave them still winless in the league and no longer involved in the MCCA Trophy.
He said: "It's been good so far, the lads have welcomed me brilliantly and I feel I have a decent enough start. We are a pretty young side with a few new faces.
"Our first captain Richard Oliver went to Worcestershire, so that's another batter out and we have lads coming in to fill those roles, which was always going to be difficult.
"I am still only 22, but I am finding it good to take the responsibility of being a senior player in the side. I want to help the players that are coming through."
