Shropshire on brink of Wales defeat

Shropshire's chairman of selectors Brian Foxall admitted that only the weather will save them from defeat in their Unicorns Championship curtain-raiser against Wales today.

The second day of the three-day clash at Pontarddulais ended with the hosts needing one run to clinch victory.

Play finished yesterday with Wales level with the Cats, having bowled Shropshire out for a paltry 62 in their second innings.

Only a complete washout will prevent them finishing the job today.

Foxall said: "We expect Wales to win the game and we can have no complaints.

"The weather is the only thing that can save us from defeat and I'm not sure we deserve that to be honest because we have been outplayed."

Wales had begun the day on 155-7, 27 runs behind, and were dismissed for 197.

But with the game seemingly back in the balance Shropshire collapsed in their second innings for just 62.

And Wales then finished the day on 47-1 with the sides unable to agree on an extension to play past 7.30pm.

Foxall said:

"Our second innings of 62 was very disappointing indeed. There were one or two poor shots. All it was a very disappointing performance."
