Shropshire's cricket captain Richard Oliver hopeful over pro deal
Shropshire cricket captain Richard Oliver is facing a two-week wait to see if he can fulfil his dream of breaking into the professional game.
Oliver is currently on trial with Worcestershire and boosted his chances of a full time deal at New Road with a sparkling innings during Friday's T20 Blast success over Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
The ex-Shifnal bastman, who now plays his club cricket in London for Reigate Priory, struck a sparkling 77 as he added to the favourable impression he has made at Worcestershire.
Oliver, 24, is hoping to land a permanent deal and believes he has until June 14 to prove he is worthy of an offer.
He said: "I am on trial and you are always trying to prove yourself. Hopefully, that's a start for me," said Oliver, who scored 143 for Reigate on Saturday.
"As regards a contract, you want to put yourself in a position where they can't not sign you.
"I have got two weeks left, June 14 is deadline day and that is when I know if they will hire or fire me. I am not going to rest on my laurels. I really want to bang the door down and make an impression while I am here."
