High-flying Cound all set for tough test

Cound will make two changes ahead of their 'biggest' test of the Shropshire County League Premier Division season at home to St Georges on Saturday.

The Harnage Road side, who top the table having won their opening two games, will bring in Derek Caslin following a fine half-century for the seconds last weekend as well as Tom Boyd, who missed last Saturday's victory over Albrighton. They will replace Dan Tudor and Tom Preece, who are both unavailable.

Vice captain Andy Harrison says the changes will not weaken the side as they chase a third straight win.

But he insisted that the team is not getting carried away following their winning start to the season.

He said: "It would an amazing start if we won three on the spin, but we are not getting too carried away.

"This will be a big test for us. They are a strong side and I'd expect them to be in the top four or five at the end of the season. They will definitely be pushing this season.

"But we finished last season very well and we have picked up as we left off this year. Staying up was a big thing for us last season and it has given us a bit of extra oomph this season."

Cound will begin the day seven places ahead of St Georges, who have lost both of their games so far against Worfield and Wem.

Reman Services, second, are also taking a 100 per cent record into the weekend when they host Albrighton.

Skipper Ed Ashlin insisted his team were also remaining calm after their fine start but he added that frequent training over the winter had helped them hit the ground running.

He said: "Between September and Christmas we had some down time, but after Christmas we were training regularly indoors.

"The lads have worked hard over the winter and it has helped us start well."

Ashlin said that confidence within the camp was high but he remains wary of Albrighton bowlers Adam Shimmons and Jason Summers, who have already taken nine wickets between them this season.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed Wem will travel to fifth-placed Wroxeter Grove, who are the only other side in the division defending a 100 per cent record after two games.

Worfield, third, will host Bomere Heath, Ludlow, sixth, will host Allscott, second bottom and Newtown, seventh, will host Frankton to complete the fixtures.
