Newport return in style
Newport marked their return to the Birmingham League with a resounding win over their Shropshire rivals Quatt in Division Three.
The Audley Avenue men powered their way to a 161-run success to claim the derby day bragging rights.
Mark Downes (51) and Chris Atherton (43) led the way with the bat as Newport posted 209-6 in 50 overs.
Amardeep Sonkar then took the star role with the ball as Quatt were blown away in response. He bagged 3-5, and there were three wickets each also for Downes and Edward Parton as Quatt crumbled to 48 in reply.
New Zealand paceman Jamie Brown made an immediate impact on his League debut for Bridgnorth. Brown bagged 4-31 as Fordhouses posted 193-6 in 50 overs.
A rain break left Bridgnorth with a reduced target of 179 in 40 overs and opener Ryan Lockley led the victory charge.
Lockely hit 72 and with Tom West chipping in with 48 Bridgnorth got home by two wickets.
In Division Two, Whitchurch started on a low note as they went down by six wickets to Old Elizabethans.
Mo Ishtiaq top scored with 40 and Behram Ali and Omar Ali made 29 and 26 respectively as Whitchurch were restricted to 157-7.
Cumberland's Jonathan Miles hit an unbeaten 76 to see OE's to victory.
