Jennings plans to quit his post

The first and only chairman to date of the Shropshire association has announced this will be his last year in the post, writes Malcolm Fletcher.

Barry Jennings told the latest meeting of the county executive at Meole Brace BC that he would be standing down at the AGM in February 2020.

The Shrewsbury giant of the game was elected to the chair when it was introduced in 2009 to give the association greater continuity by taking the pressure off the county president.

Rules for the new-look Senior Inter-League championship were approved at the meeting and the dates for the eight-a-side ties at neutral venues in a straight knockout are the Saturday nights of April 27, May 25, June 29, August 24 and September 14.

The Wem League have been asked to host the Veterans Inter-League on Saturday, June 15, while Mid Shropshire will put on the Junior Inter-League on Sunday, September 8.

Meanwhile, county deputy president Wendy Icke has picked Ash to host this year’s Shropshire Junior Merit day on Saturday, July 13.
