Williams, who bowls for First Division high-fliers Chirk AAA, beat Sue Taylor of Second Division Weston Rhyn 21-11 in the final at a sunny Llangollen RAFA club.

“A mix of recent past winners and finalists, newly eligible veterans and those who’ve competed for many years took part,” said league competition organiser Trevor Roberts.

“The tricky green got faster throughout the day and it was no surprise to see the younger aged players get to the semi-finals when the temperature was very high. Then home bowlers Lil Blackshaw and Alex Brummell missed out on a final place, losing 21-15 to Sue Taylor and 21-18 to Brian Williams respectively.

“The early part of the final was even up to 11 across, then Brian found a tricky piece and ran out with 10 consecutive singles.”
