The keeper has made 25 starts for Salop this season across all competitions but has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Jamal Blackman.

His last appearance came in Shrewsbury's 4-1 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in December.

He has now joined the Bees, who are top of the National League, on a month-long loan and he went straight into the starting XI for their clash against second-placed York City.

Speaking ahead of Town's game against Huddersfield, head coach Gareth Ainsworth said: "We have loaned Toby Savin out to Barnet for a month, they are top of the National League - I think it is a fantastic move for him.

"He is going from a relegation scrap to a promotion campaign, so that is brilliant for Toby. He has got his first game against York, it is a big one for him so we will be keeping a close eye on him.

"He has obviously been out of the team for a bit now. Jamal has come in and kept his place, and Toby needs games - you need games as a football player."

It was a busy day for the Town goalkeeping department as Joe Young also returned from his loan at Brackley Town.

Savin arrived at Town in the summer looking to put a 'rough year' of injury hell behind him after he signed a two-year deal from Accrington Stanley.

The 23-year-old had hardly played in the 12 months before he moved to Shropshire, but he made a bright start at the Croud Meadow.

But as Town's form dipped, and the pressure heated up on a leaky Salop defence as they struggled at the bottom of the league, the keeper was eventually taken out of the firing line by boss Gareth Ainsworth.
