Shropshire archers on target in Germany
Two archers from Shropshire are celebrating after winning three medals between them at the World Archery Para Championships in Germany.
John Walker, from Newport, captured gold alongside Great Britain team mate Jo Frith in the W1 mixed team event as well as a silver medal in the men's individual W1 competition.
Mel Clarke, from Telford, claimed silver with John Stubbs in the compound mixed team event. Those successes helped Great Britain to a superb overall medal haul of 10 from the tournament.
Walker and Frith grabbed their gold by beating China in a closely-fought match, 138-136, while Walker was edged out in the individual W1 final 143-136 by David Drahoninsky of the Czech Republic.
Clarke and Stubbs lost out in the compound mixed team event final, losing 151-146 to China.
The medals kept coming for team GB with Frith securing the W1 individual women's silver medal when top seed Guo Ying of China defeated her in the final 139-136.
In the women's W1 competition Jessica Stretton faced Zhang Lu (China) in the bronze medal match and won 130-125.
John Stubbs was successful in the compound men's open bronze medal match against Jonathon Milner (Australia) with an impressive 136 -128 victory.
The British visually impaired archers marked the return of their discipline to the Para World Championships by winning four medals.
Roger Rees-Evans achieved the silver medal in the VI1 category following his match against Janice Walth of the USA, which the American won 6-0.
There was a clean sweep for Britain in the VI2/3 competition, as the archers won all three medals available.
Stephen Prowse achieved the top spot, while Peter Price won silver and Carmel Bassett took bronze.
Michael Peart, Paralympic Coach at Archery GB said: "We are proud of the successes at this year's Para World Championships and meeting our targets for the competition.
"Against some challenging circumstances leading into the event, we are encouraged with our progress.
But he added: "Such is the increasing level of competition that we know we have to continue to improve to increase our competitiveness for Rio and beyond."
