Will Enefer is hailed for his England debut
Shropshire golf bosses have hailed the form of Wrekin starlet Will Enefer after he finished second in a major international competition on his England Under-18s debut.
Enefer, 17, has claimed the runner-up spot at the German Boys Open at St Leon Rot after a stellar showing over 54 holes.
The two-time Shropshire & Herefordshire men's county champion, who will defend his title this Sunday, capped a fine display with a superb five under par final day score of 67.
Enefer, who is also the county's junior boys captain, finished on eight-under par overall and two shots behind champion, Thomas Roenmueller of Germany.
Shropshire's junior golf chairman Charles Sievewright has worked with Enefer for several years in the county youth set-up.
He said: "It is a fantastic achievement first of all just to be picked to represent England, let alone to come second in an international competition.
"He's in great form and he has had some great results so far this year. He has got some big events still to come and, hopefully, he will get picked for some more England events this summer.
"It's obviously down to him and his form but it is a case of so far, so good."
Enefer's latest achievement has also been welcomed by his home club. Wrekin secretary Richard Gallier added: "It is a great achievement.
"He's had a lot of good form recently and his handicap is coming down. It all bodes well for the future."
Enefer had been in contention for glory throughout the championship, having opened with a three-under 69 which left him one shot off the lead.
Then a level par second round saw him drop to fourth place and five shots back but, in the final round, he chased the leader hard.
He got to within one shot of him before taking his only bogey of the day on the 15th.
Enefer also helped his team to second place in the Nations Cup event which also took place over the weekend.
England's three-strong team consisted of Enefer, Toby Briggs of Dunston Hall, Norfolk, and Harry Hall of West Cornwall.
England also entered three girls in the German Open Girls event which was played at the same venue.
Sophie Lamb of Clitheroe, Lancashire, Hollie Muse of West Lancashire, and Lizzie Prior of Burhill, Surrey finished second in the Nations Cup event.
