Victory in Lancashire gives Telford a two-point advantage over second-placed Manchester, with the Tigers still having a game to play.

They will now enter the semi-final stage alongside the Phoenix later in the season, with the southern section still be decided.

Jason Silverthorn (2), Max Birbraer, Blahoslav Novak and Nathan Salem were on target as Telford claimed their eleventh success in twelve challenge cup games.

On Saturday night, meanwhile, the Tigers emerged 7-2 winners from a bruising English Premier League encounter with visitors Sheffield Steeldogs at Telford Ice Rink.

The county men still hold a nine-point lead at the top of the standings, thanks to goals from Silverthorn (2), Peter Szabo (2), Sam Zajac, Joe Miller and Salem.

Saturday's win was marred, however, by an injury to defenceman Dan Scott, who suffered suspected concussion in a goalmouth challenge.
