The New Saints opened up a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the Welsh Premier after sweeping aside lowly Bangor City 5-0 at Nantporth.

Victory was effectively assured after the unbeaten high-flyers fired a four-goal salvo in the first 34 minutes and, despite having striker Mike Wilde sent off early in the second half, ran out comfortable winners.

Midfielder Aeron Edwards got the ball rolling when heading past keeper Jack Cudworth from Wilde's cross after six minutes and, 10 minutes later, Scott Quigley doubled the lead with a fine strike.

Kai Edwards then got in on the act with a third on 28 minutes and Wilde scored his eighth goal of the season six minutes later.

Wilde then saw red for a challenge nine minutes into the second half but, despite down to 10 men, TNS went further ahead on the hour through winger Adrian Cieslewicz.

Bangor huffed and puffed but struggled to find a way through a solid Saints back line.

*Heavy rain during the day saw Newtown's trip to Bala Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Maes Tegid, while Aberystwyth Town moved up to second with a 4-2 home success over Cefn Druids.
