Ben Carless selected to represent Wales at Commonwealth Games

Shrewsbury's Ben Carless was today preparing to represent the Welsh hockey team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The defender progressed through the ranks Ludlow, starting out aged eight on the tarmac playground at Wistanstow School.

The 23-year-old moved away from Shropshire to study mechanical engineering at the University of Bath and captains their first-team.

He now makes his Commonwealth debut for a Wales team that last featured at the Manchester Games in 2002.

His first game will be against India on July 25.
