Shrewsbury boss Jackson weighs up options ahead of loan deadline

Shrewsbury boss Mike Jackson today admitted he will only move for new recruits if absolutely necessary ahead of the loan deadline.

The window shuts today with Jackson hunting reinforcements to boost Town's fight against the drop.

They are third bottom of League One after Tuesday's dour 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Carlisle and go to promotion-chasing Walsall on Saturday.

And with Jackson sweating on Jermaine Grandison's hamstring injury he will assess his squad before swooping for reinforcements.

"We've got the deadline coming up so we'll have to see how Jermaine is," he said.

"We don't want to do anything for the sake of doing it. We need to check on everyone and see how they are feeling and we'll go from there.

"I've had a discussion with the scout as well. You try to get young lads in and get them up to speed in four weeks so we have to make sure they are the right ones if we are going to do anything."

Town have taken four points from their last two games after their Brunton Park stalemate and Saturday's last-gasp 2-1 win over Bradford.

They are a point from the safety line with just six points separating the bottom nine in League One with seven games left.

Jackson's men have the chance to avenge the 1-0 defeat to Walsall in October and fire themselves out of the drop zone at the weekend.

But he admitted Shrewsbury must improve at the Banks's Stadium after being fortunate to escape with a point from Carlisle.

He said: "It is momentum but you have standards. We've got to be better especially after Saturday but both sides were nervous."
