Burway have been given the green light to begin their Furrows Shropshire Premier League play-off campaign tonight – but only after a tight vote.

Burway's play-off participation had been in doubt because they are on a club weekend trip to Blackpool from Friday, October 7 – the day the winners of the four-strong pre play-offs are due to meet this season's Premier League basement boys Bylet.

But, after lengthy talks yesterday, the seven-strong management committee have decided to allow the Ludlow League champions to attempt to reach the top league in Shropshire for the first time in their history.

"Tonight's game goes ahead," said Premier League supremo Mark Burroughs, of Burway's pre-play semi-final clash with Madeley Cricket Club at St Georges.

"There is a lot of strong feeling on the management committee and it was a narrow vote."

Burroughs has now requested Bylet provide two new dates – by next Monday – they would be willing to play one of the showpiece occasions on the Shropshire calendar if they are up against Burway, as they were 12 months ago.

If Madeley Cricket Club, Hanwood or Hanmer – the latter two meet on Friday – reach the play-off final, it will be played as scheduled on October 7.
