One of the great talents of Shropshire bowls is back for the winner-takes-all County Championship clash with Wales next month.

Chester Road's Charlie Weaver had indicated he would not be available for Shropshire action this season.

But the 2001 Shropshire Merit winner and newly-crowned Ellesmere Open champion has completed a U-turn for the final group four round-robin match which will prove decisive after both teams defeated Cumbria.

"Charlie had indicated he wouldn't be available but he spoke to Bob Moss and he said he is now wanting to be involved," said John Nash, one of the quartet in charge.

"We are absolutely delighted and when someone like Charlie comes available, you have to get him in the side."

Weaver replaces St Georges joint captain Ian Gaut in the away leg at Trefnant on Sunday, July 3, for which Newport's Daniel Hand is named on reserve for the first time.

There are two changes for the home leg at Pontesbury with Burway's Simon Parsonage – man of the match in Shropshire's Crosfield Cup final victory over Yorkshire in 2009 – promoted from reserve.

Meole Brace's Michael Dulson is also in the home 12 with Dave Hoffman and Andy Duckett – of Castlefields and Chester Road –dropped to reserve.

Castlefields' Keith Walton and Tony Rhodes, of St Georges, are rewarded for their fine form with a place on reserve.
