Jubilant Telford Tigers are basking in the glow of only their second win of the season.

A 4-2 home victory over Swindon Wildcats on Sunday helped make up for a disappointing 6-1 road loss at Slough the night before.

A fast and lively opening period against Swindon saw Andrejs Maslovskis score first, assisted by Luke Brittle, within the first five minutes.

Man of the match Ashley Calvert marked his return to Telford Ice Rink with a well taken goal midway through the second, but Swindon struck straight back from the re-start to make it 2-1 going into the decider.

Despite a number of powerplays, including five minutes when Toivo Suursoo was ejected for a check to Dan Scott's head, it wasn't until 50:52 that Tigers were able to convert the advantage, with Josh Bruce scoring.

Wildcats reduced the deficit with a powerplay goal of their own, but their desperation showed when they pulled their goalie, enabling Scott McKenzie to round it off 4-2 with a cheeky empty netter.

Player-coach Tom Watkins said: "These two points are important to us. We played well in patches, and shut Swindon down well.

"If we had converted a couple of the earlier powerplays the game would have been dead and buried.

"Credit to Swindon, on their penalty kill they made it very hard for us, they pressured, they didn't let us settle on the puck and they moved it around very well.

"But our guys bought into what we were doing, Martin was solid in goal, and we didn't give up any easy opportunities. The only disappointment for me tonight was when we were 2-0 up we let them straight back in.

"But it is encouraging, and important ahead of next weekend's games against Bracknell."

The result was reassuring after Tigers stumbled to a 6-1 defeat at Slough Jets on Saturday.

Watkins was Telford's sole scorer, assisted by Maslovskis, and the side kept it close, still at 3-1 in the final session.

However, a nightmare spell saw Slough charge ahead.
