AFC Telford United are set to run the rule over promising former West Brom midfielder Dwayne Samuels in tonight's pre-season friendly at Shifnal Town (7.30pm).

Samuels, 19, was released by the Baggies at the end of last season and has already been on trial with League Two side Bury this summer.

He was an unused substitute for the Bucks in their 2-0 victory over FC United of Manchester in the Supporters Direct Cup on Saturday.

The teenager is likely to be joined by half-Swiss, half-Cameroonian midfielder Kevin Vogeli in tonight's clash against the West Midlands League premier division club at Phoenix Park.

Vogeli linked up with Telford for training last Thursday and the former FC Thun and FC Basel youngster should now be given a chance to stake his claim for a place in boss Andy Sinton's squad.

Sinton also hopes to take another look at former Hereford centre-back Karl Broadhurst, but may be without trialist midfielder Dean Bennett due to a groin injury.

Shifnal boss Matt Flanagan has had to rebuild his squad after relegation from the Midland Alliance last season, but is optimistic about challenging at a lower level.

He has snapped up Gareth Horler, Rhys Adams and George Williams from Bridgnorth, while other signings include Steve Faux and the prolific Chris Henry from Wellington Amateurs.

"We should have a few goals in us," he said. "I've now got three or four lads who have won this league before and a few who have won the league below.

"We don't have any sort of budget at all, but we do have a good mix of experience and youth."

  • Admission tonight is £5 for adults and £3 for under-16s and pensioners.
