Derek Wright had gone unbeaten in division one of the SPS Whitchurch League from July 2007 until last week.

The Wem USC star, who led by example in the away leg of Shropshire's win over the Potteries, lost 21-17 at Prees against Brian Hickson.

And it's a run that, even though he missed two games due to illness and then a holiday, Wright is justifiably proud of.

"One or two think it's a Mickey Mouse league, but I got into the county side playing in the Whitchurch League," said Wright.

"It's the biggest league in the county and it's not that poor a standard so I am proud of setting a new record. But all good things come to an end."

And who would bet against Wright launching another winning run tonight when Wem USC, chasing a third successive championship, entertain Woore.
