Morgan: We're not there for the ride
Owner Steve Morgan has warned the Premier League his Wolves will not be on an autograph-hunt when they step back into the big time next season.
Owner Steve Morgan has warned the Premier League his Wolves will not be on an autograph-hunt when they step back into the big time next season.
The Molineux chairman and club owner chose his team's jubilant farewell to a title-winning campaign to repeat his pledge to lead a much more challenging Wolves squad into one of world football's most demanding leagues in August.
The 1-0 victory over Doncaster brought down the curtain on a remarkable campaign which has seen Wolves win the title by seven points from neighbours Birmingham, who joined them in the automatic promotion spots after yesterday's Championship finale.
It is Wolves' second bite at the Premier League cherry, six years after their Play Off final triumph was followed by an under-investment which saw the team relegated the following season.
But Morgan is determined to banish any notion of his club going into the Premier League as second-class citizens.
"Preparations have already begun for life on and off the field next season because we know how tough it can be in probably the most competitive league in the world," said Morgan.
"But we are not going there simply for the ride or to enjoy the scenery. We are not there as tourists, happy to be rubbing shoulders with the great and the good.
"Wolves is a club that has the potential to once again establish itself in the world of top-flight football."
