Wolves are hoping to secure their first signing of the transfer window with a swoop for Rangers forward Alan Gow.

The 26-year-old signed for Rangers from Falkirk in 2007, but boss Walter Smith has confirmed he is not part of his long term plans.

Gow has been on loan at Blackpool in the first half of this season and played against the Molineux men in Monday night's 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road.

He has scored five goals in ten starts.

Smith said: "We've had an enquiry from Wolves and negotiations are ongoing.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We have made an enquiry and we may be going back to talk to them some more. We're having discussions with Rangers at the moment."

Left-footed Gow can play as a striker or on either flank, and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has tried to sign him before.

Wolves have confirmed that on-loan defender Michael Mancienne has returned to parent club Chelsea.

The England Under-21 centre-half, who was included in the senior squad for November's victory in Germany, had been due to stay at Molineux until the end of January after extending his deal last week.

But with Chelsea struggling with injuries, and Brazilian Alex repeatedly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this month, coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has chosen to recall him to London and he was due to play in the FA Cup clash with Southend today.
