Andy's craving may end soon
Andy Moss today stood on the brink of winning the national bowls title he craves. The Chester Road man was through to finals day for the last eight of the big money London & Edinburgh Inns Autumn Waterloo in Blackpool.
And the dairy farmer from Woore was guaranteed a cheque for £300 whatever the outcome of his quarter-final showdown with former British No 1 Graeme Wilson.
But money is not the main incentive for the 1999 Shropshire Merit winner.
For that year he went on to be losing finalist in the All England championships and, despite numerous individual team honours since, it's a big national honour he really wants.
Moss saw off Ian Nicholson of Kendal 21-17 in the last 32 on Monday and followed up by beating Peter Fielding (Rochdale) 21-19 yesterday to make the finals day field.
A £1,000 prize looms for the winner with Wilson rated the 7-4 favourite for the crown, if he can beat Moss.
l Wrockwardine Wood scored 8-4 wins both home and away over Sir John Bayley A last night to clinch the Shrewsbury Ladies League title.
The division one rivals had gone into the games locked on the same points.
