But Shrewsbury-based Kitson, who is also treasurer of Shrewsbury Town Football Club's Super Blues body, is adamant that cricket and football remain his first loves.

New county bowls president Barry Jennings explained: "He will be doing the job as treasurer as a favour to me and the county bowls executive.

"He's happy to do the job and he will see how it goes. He will do it as his third love and, in my opinion, it is not a short term appointment. He's not bowler but he has got a great CV.

"He just wants it made clear that he is not packing in cricket or the Super Blues," said Jennings.

Kitson will succeed John Hughes, from Admaston in Telford, in the key position and will be introduced to the county bowls executive at its next meeting on March 5.
