Urban Games come to town

The games followed on from the success of last year's event which saw more than 1,000 people participating or watching.

Events such as BMX racing, a moto-stick freestyle competition and off-road space hopper racing were just some of the events on offer today and parents and guardians had the chance to join in as well.

Other activities included "Xtreme trampolining", an assault course, bouncy boxing, sumo wrestling, gladiators, and five-a-side football coaching which culminated in a soccer competition.

Councillor Denis Allen, Telford and Wrekin Council's cabinet member for community services, said: "It is a great achievement for Telford to be the main host of the Urban Games.

"With the success of last year's event, the occasion proved to be a day of entertainment, activity and amusement for all the family."

The Urban Games was organised by Telford & Wrekin Council in partnership with the Wrekin Riders BMX Club, Telford Police and Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council.

The Wrekin Riders secured funding of £6,000 to put on this year's event from the Youth Opportunities Fund.
