Video gives first glimpse of railway station after multi-million-pound revamp
A new video shows how Wolverhampton railway station will look after a multi-million pound transformation.
They are taken from a virtual tour of the station showing what the work, part of a £120 million Interchange project, will result in.
The Wolverhampton Interchange is a project to combine rail, tram and bus services.
Councillor Peter Bilson, deputy leader and cabinet member for city assets, said: "The fly-through video really whets the appetite, giving everyone a real feel for the exciting plans we have to transform the railway station."
The Interchange Partnership has submitted plans to demolish the existing station and replace it with the new one. Work is due to begin on the new railway station next year following the extension and refurbishment of the railway station multi-storey car park, which is expected to be completed by Christmas.
The new railway station will also benefit from an enhanced Birmingham New Street-style ticket office, larger passenger concourse, ample ticket barriers to ease flow onto and off platforms, much improved retail and cafe facilities, increased taxi rank provision and a more efficient passenger drop off/pick up arrangement.
Steve Parry, managing director of Neptune Developments, added: "The graphic design team have done a fantastic job in producing a fly through that really showcases what the new railway station will offer."
Dave Whitehouse, Virgin Trains interchange project manager for Wolverhampton, said: "The fly through really brings the new-look station alive and we hope it provides a real sense of excitement for passengers.
"I would also urge passengers to stay in touch with developments at the station via the Interchange Partnership Twitter feed @WVInterchange."
