New Sunday car parking fees for Shrewsbury and Ludlow

On-street parking charges could be introduced in two towns in Shropshire on Sundays under plans being considered by council chiefs.

Shropshire Council wants to introduce the charges in Shrewsbury and Ludlow which could earn it about £30,000 per year.

The authority wants to charge for Sunday parking at the same rates now charged on Monday to Saturday. It covers areas like parking bays and other selected town centre streets.

Under the proposals the council also wants to bring forward the times of operation of the pay and display bays from 8.30am to 8am in Shrewsbury.

Plans also include altering the times and days of operation of the single yellow lines in Shrewsbury from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm, to Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm.

The council cabinet will be asked to back the changes at a meeting in Shirehall on Wednesday.

Any approved recommendation will be implemented from January 20.

A council report says it needs to 'redress the balance' between car parks and on-street parking in the towns.
