New Telford restaurant would serve up 15 new jobs
Up to 15 jobs could be created under plans to turn a dental surgery into a restaurant in Telford.
A planning application has been lodged with Telford & Wrekin Council asking for permission to transform The Glen Cottage, in Priorslee, Telford, into an eatery.
The plans state that the dental surgery is looking to move to an alternative site in Priorslee which can better meet its needs.
It has not yet been disclosed who is planning to take over the premises to run it as a restaurant. It is thought the development will create five full-time and 10 part-time jobs if given the go-ahead.
A report lodged with the planning application said: "The development proposal is considered to meet the economic needs of the area by enabling the establishment of a new economic development resulting in the provision of a number of jobs during the construction phase of the scheme and afterwards in the new business accommodated."
The plans also involve building a two-storey extension, but the report said the visual impact of the extension will be minimal.
The extension would be built on the north-eastern corner of the building accommodating a disabled toilet and cold store at ground floor level, and female toilet at first floor level. The report said the restaurant will "enhance the character and appearance of the local area".
It said: "The building subject of the application has been utilised as a dental practice.
"However, the building is not ideally suited to such as use and more appropriate premises that better meets the needs and requirements of a modern dental practice are therefore being sought in Priorslee.
"As the building is longer required for its current use and an alternative use has been sought that is viable, and will assimilate with the character and appearance of the local area and adjoining land uses.
"The application therefore proposes the re-use of the building as a restaurant as such a use is considered to be easily accommodated within the existing structure."
The building lies adjoining Priorslee Primary Academy, a medical practice and pub.
The report added: "The proposed development site is in a highly sustainable location within a local centre, alongside a range of local community facilities and services.
"Nonetheless, its location neighbouring other local community services and facilities means the proposed development will not result in any unacceptable amenity issues."
A decision on the plans is due to be made by Telford & Wrekin Council soon.
