Plans lodged to build 48 homes on scrub land near Shrewsbury
Developers have submitted plans to Shropshire Council to build 48 apartments on scrub land near Shrewsbury.
AIP architects, from Shrewsbury, has put forward the plans on behalf of Shropshire-based house builder Saxonby Homes.
The apartments would be housed in three blocks which would be built on land on Ellesmere Road, which has been identified as suitable for development.
In a design and access statement submitted on behalf of the applicants, AIP Architects said: "This is a high quality, well designed residential scheme which will incorporate sensitively the existing typology and character, and features.
"There will be a good connection to the existing highway pathway network so pedestrians can safely access amenities and will provide a flexible and broad range of choices for residents in the accommodation types proposed.
"The development provides three distinct blocks. Two front the Ellesmere Road with a larger form sitting behind and utilising the lower levels to 'sink' and ground the building into the site whilst maintaining the same roof height.
Each building is serviced from the access road to the centre of the site from the Ellesmere Road.
"Although the centre of the site contains a new access road it was a conscious decision to try and avoid a 'car park' within the heart of the development, hence the majority of parking being located under residences, making the most use of the site levels.
"Part of the frontage to Ellesmere Road creates interest with the residential block to the south of the site pulled back to provide a green frontage echoing the layout of other properties along the Ellesmere Road. "
The proposed development provides 48 apartments with a variety of accommodation in design. The developers propose six one-bedroom apartments, 34 two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bedroom apartments.
The scheme will also provide 10 per cent affordable housing.
