Plans for 215 Newport homes marked for go-ahead
A scheme for 215 new two, three and four-bed homes in Newport look set to get the go-ahead next week, a year and a half and hundreds of objections after they were first submitted.
St Modwen Properties wants to build the houses on land north of Audley Avenue.
The development first came to light in May last year and will finally go in front of Telford & Wrekin Council's plans board on Wednesday where they are recommended for approval.
There will be 43 two bed properties, 86 three beds and 86 four beds.
The number of affordable houses is yet to be decided.
Newport Town Council objected to the plans over the scale .
Town mayor Councillor Tony Forrester said today: "That area should be reserved for industrial use to create jobs in Newport.
"Newport needs new houses - but it needs to be in the right place."
There are also objections from Newport & District Civic Society and Newport Regeneration Partnership as well as more than 150 residents.
Building work would take about five years, St Modwen said, although that would depend on the housing market.
