MP raises plight of persecuted Christians
The plight of persecuted Christians around the world has been raised in Parliament by a Shropshire MP.
Mark Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin, asked Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt what resources the Government would be making available to the Bishop of Truro for an investigation into the global persecution of Christians.
Mr Hunt last month ordered an independent, global review into the persecution of Christians of all nationalities amid claims that not enough is being done to defend the rights of nearly 200 million Christians at risk of persecution.
He appointed the Bishop of Truro, Rt Rev Philip Mounstephen, to lead the inquiry, and will make recommendations on the practical steps the government can take to better support those under threat. The Bishop is due to report back at Easter.
Mr Hunt assured Mr Pritchard the review would be well resourced, both financially and in terms of personnel.
"We will extend all the necessary resources to the Bishop of Truro and his team," said Mr Hunt.
"We have had good discussions about the resources that they need. This is an important review, and we want to ensure that it is done properly."
