The Three Trees island at Whittington, June 4, 1968. The caption reads: 'Well-known blackspot for motorists travelling the A5 at Whittington is this triangle island. The three trees in the centre of the triangle were planted to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo. An improvement scheme is planned, but negotiations have to be completed, and the Ministry of Transport will be approached. The island was recently described in a court as 'that internal (sic - possibly a misprint for infernal) triangle at Whittington.'
