October 28, 1985, the story began: 'British Rail has had a change of heart over a controversial decision to close the Daywell rail crossing near Gobowen. Residents were amazed over the weekend to hear that the crossing linking their community with nearby Gobowen was being closed yesterday. But what really angered them was the lack of consultation... But after complaints from residents over yesterday's surprise closure British Rail announced today that the crossing would be reopened immediately for the situation to be assessed.' This picture was published without a caption and the story below did not say who the man in the picture is, but does say 'One of the people affected was Mr Stephen Jones, of Clevelands, Daywell, who works as a self employed odd job man and regularly uses the crossing to reach customers in Gobowen...' So it may well be Mr Jones on the picture.
