Wakefield drink-driver stopped by police blows six times over legal limit
West Yorkshire Police pulled over a driver who blew a staggering reading of 212 on a breathalyser

Traffic officers have arrested a driver who was caught driving at a remarkable six times over the legal drink drive limit.
The West Yorkshire Roads Policing Unit pulled the driver over in Wakefield city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was asked to blow into a breathalyser, which returned a staggering reading of 212 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is just 35 micrograms of alcohol, meaning the driver was more than six times over the accepted threshold.
The police made the arrest on a tip from a member of the public, who presumably saw the van driver getting into his vehicle while drunk or driving erratically.
The officers who caught the driver tweeted a photo of the breathalyser reading, commenting: “Wakefield Centre – a member of the public alerted us to this male, who we got in his van. #Unbelievable.”
That’s not the highest reading of recent years, however. Back in 2014, Bedfordshire Police arrested a motorist who blew an incredible 423mg – more than 12 times the limit.
