Mercedes-Benz has revealed updated versions of its S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet vehicles.

The new models gain additional exterior styling touches, while a new V8 engine has been introduced to the range.

Ultra-bright OLED (organic light emitting diode) tail lights are now fitted as standard, and include 66 individual LEDs to provide exceptional brightness. They also come with Mercedes’ multi-level technology, which means that the lights have different levels of intensity depending on the time of day and driving conditions. Poor visibility will cause the lights to be brighter, for instance.

All cars in the range receive a chrome-plated front splitter, as well as restyled side skirts.

The updated AMG S-Class Coupe and Cabriolets also benefit from a new ‘Panamerica’ radiator grille, replacing the existing horizontally slated version.

The engine line-up begins with the V6-powered S450 4Matic, while an all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 is now used to power the S560, replacing the older 4.6-litre V8. It produces 462bhp and 700Nm of torque, allowing the S560 to hit 60mph in a claimed time of 3.3 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155mph.

This latest unit can deactivate four cylinders when under partial load, lowering emissions and increasing fuel efficiency.

At the top of the range sits the V12-powered AMG S65. This produces 621bhp and 1000Nm of torque, allowing the S65 to hit 60mph in just under four seconds.

All engines in the range send their power to all four wheels via a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox – though the V12-powered S65 has to use an older, seven-speed unit as a result of its high torque figure.

The updated S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are set to make their full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
