Elderly targeted by thieves in Market Drayton
Elderly and vulnerable people are being targeted by bogus callers in a town, police have warned.
Officers are encouraging people to be vigilant following a spate of incidents involving bogus callers in the Market Drayton area.
On three occasions a man has targeted elderly residents at their homes, telling them he has removed moss from the roof or cleaned the gutter at the request of a son or grandson.
Police say the man, who is described as white, in his early 20s and of average build, then asks for money.
On each occasion no work has been agreed to, and police say fortunately the victims have not handed over any money.
Following the bogus call people are being warned not to make a quick decision on the doorstep and only deal with firms with genuine verifiable telephone numbers and addresses.
Police also urge people not to open their door to a trader if they do not wish to speak to them, and do not allow uninvited callers into their homes.
If anyone is approached by what they believe to be a bogus caller or if they have any information about the incidents in Market Drayton contact police on 101.
Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
