Unmanned boat slips its moorings in River Severn
Fire, ambulance and police were called to the River Severn in Shrewsbury (FRI)after reports that an unmanned boat was in the river.
But it turned out to be a simple case of a boat coming free of its moorings.
Fire officers recovered the vessel and secured it after arriving at Chester Street just before 11am yesterday (FRI).
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "At 10:51am fire control received calls reporting a water rescue in Shrewsbury. Fire appliances from Shrewsbury were mobilised, with the first appliance arriving on the scene at Chester Street.
"The boat and supporting appliances and an operational officer attended reports of an untethered boat floating in the river."
Sarah-Jayne Lynch, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Reports were received that a boat was floating in the river and there was no sign of anyone in it. The boat was retrieved."
