Caitlin Wilde, 18, also slashed a tyre on the victim’s car to prevent her from following her after the assault, which happened in a park in the Newport area.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court, Wilde was given a 12-month community order and was also told to pay £250 compensation to the victim, Rebecca Harris.

Recorder Martin Jackson also said Wilde must complete 120-hours unpaid work and pay £100 costs.

At an earlier hearing Wilde, of Cherrington, Newport, had admitted charges of common assault and criminal damage.

The court heard the incident happened near a bus stop in Victoria Park on February 6 when Miss Harris was with a number of other girls.

Mr Geoffrey Dann, prosecuting, said that the victim suffered bruising when she was punched four or five times to the head and neck, along with a single blow to the abdomen.

He said the defendant then slashed a tyre on Miss Harris’ car in a bid to stop her following her.

The court heard during the case on Monday that the defendant and victim had been friends.

But Wilde had not revealed details of what eventually provoked the disagreement and the assault.

Mr Jason Pegg, for Wilde, said his client had found it difficult to make many friends after her family had moved into the Newport area.

He said the irony was that Miss Harris had been one of her best friends up until the attack.

Mr Pegg said that Wilde had not revealed the details of the dispute between the two teenage girls.

“She accepts she foolishly allowed her emotions to lead her to throw the punches and was genuinely remorseful and regretted what had happened,” he said.
