The event organised by Telford & Wrekin Council will be held at the International Centre on Thursday(7) from midday to 7.30pm.

Employers due to attend include the council's new partners Idverde which will be providing the borough’s grounds and street cleansing service from April 1 and Balfour Beatty Living Places its new highways improvement contractor. Both companies will be offering apprenticeship placements in partnership with the council.

The council said it is aiming to make the show even bigger that in previous years with the support of Shropshire Council and Telford College to show young visitors the range of career and training opportunities available across the county and wider West Midlands areas.

Event sponsors are The University of Wolverhampton, The British Army, and Shropshire Star and Express & Star and the Careers and Enterprise Company. Other exhibitors include The Job Box, Learn Telofrd, Coverage Care Services, Morris Care, Whittington Riddel, Avara Foods and Capgemini.

Each stand will offer hands-on activities related to a range of careers and the chance for visitors to speak to the businesses about what they need to do to get their dream job.

Pupils, aged 15 to 18, have been invited to the show to help them to make their career decisions. And parents and carers are also welcome to pop in with their children after school.

There is no longer an upper age limit for apprenticeships which means adults can apply for placements and employers can use their experience to help with workforce skill building.

Telford & Wrekin’s cabinet member for employment Councillor Shirley Reynolds said: “We’re really pleased to be back with The Apprenticeship Show for a fourth consecutive year.

“We’re excited to welcome our new contractors and for them to showcase their apprenticeship opportunities.

“Apprenticeships have recently become much more popular with both employers and apprentices alike. For employers, it gives them the opportunity to grow their business and nurture their future workforce. For the apprentice, it gives them a non-academic route into a chosen career.

“We have heard of many cases, including within this council, of apprentices who have shone and gone on to greater things with the same employer.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone along to next month’s event who will be able to apply for and find out about the hundreds of opportunities available.”
