Garry Phillips used to be the principal at New College Telford, which merged with Telford College of Arts and Technology in recent years to become Telford College.

He was principal of the college when it bought The Whitehouse Hotel in Watling Street, Wellington, in 2014 so it could also be used for training and apprenticeships.

Mr Phillips, who was more recently head of City College Plymouth, died over the Christmas period and his cause of death is currently unknown.

He had masters degrees in business administration and education and worked in colleges all over the country.

He had also worked as principal at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.

Mr Phillips leaves behind two sons.

His funeral is due to take place on Friday.
