The group were stuck inside the lift at Southwater for about two minutes after the doors failed to open.

Crews from Tweedale Fire Station used specialist keys to open the lift car to let them out at about 7.35pm on New Year's Eve.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said a lift engineer was due to carry out checks at the site.
