Telford generation to share memories

As Telford celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the town's Senior Citizens Forum is inviting local people over 50 to a special reminiscence event focusing on the generation who have grown up and grown older with Telford.

Taking place on July 4 at The Place, Oakengates, it is aimed at people who either watched as the town was proposed, developed and grown, or who came to Telford with young families with hopes for a new life.

The day, which runs from 10am to 2pm, will include photographs and local information about the town, local venues and leisure pursuits as well as the history of AFC Telford. There will be videos, a quiz, short talks, music and light refreshments.

Celia Steventon, who chairs the forum, said: "We’re hoping people will enjoy chatting and sharing memories with one another about places that were central to how they spent their time as young people and then throughout their lives, how these places have changed or stayed the same, which ones are no longer there and how their leisure time has changed.

"We're inviting people to come along and join us. It is free and open to non-members, everyone is welcome.”

Past Times in Telford is funded by a grant from Telford & Wrekin Council for the Telford at 50 celebrations.
