Student's cancer fundraiser passes £2k
A college student has raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Nathan Priday, a student at Ludlow College, organised a quiz night and bingo and plans to run the Simply Health Great North Run on September 9 to raise funds for charity.
The 18-year-old has raised £2,351 to date, and received raffle prizes from a number of local businesses including Sun Inn, Shropshire Hills Catering, Oaker Wood Leisure, AutoGlanz, Robinsons Cider of Tenbury, Hobsons, Ludlow Brewing Co. and Monkey Mania.
Nathan launched his fundraising efforts after several people close to him were diagnosed with cancer, including his grandparents.
He said: "I wanted to do my own bit to give back because they did so much for me."
The college student has gone way past his original target of £500 and said that he is still hoping to make it to £3,000.
He said: "I would not mind getting to £3,000. It might be difficult but I have one month left."
Nathan said he was delighted with the level of support his fundraising had received so far, and offered his thanks to everyone who has supported him.
He said: "I am really pleased. I didn't expect to raise as much as I have. The original target was £500 and I didn't think I would get that!
"I am really thankful to everyone who has helped. I would not have been able to raise as much without people's help."
A keen sportsman Nathan is not setting himself any targets for his Great North Run time, but said his training had been going well.
He added: "As long as it's below 24 hours!"
