Incense at luxury Shropshire retreat triggers smoke alarms

Firefighters were called to a Shropshire rural retreat for writers . . . after incense cause the smoke alarms to go off.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SRFS) said they were called to the Hurst in Clunton, Clun, to reports of a fire on Friday at around 9.38am.

On arrival, fire crews discovered a was a false alarm triggered by somebody burning incense at the retreat.

The Hurst describes itself as place for writers to get creative "far away from daily distractions". The house and gardens, surrounded by the forest-covered Shropshire Hills, was the former home of playwright John Osborne.
