The stark beauty of winter in Shropshire has been captured in this sunrise image.

Professional wildlife photographer Andrew Fusek-Peters rose early and climbed into the Shropshire Hills.

His photo shows the sun rising from Caer Caradoc, looking towards Battlestones rock and Clee.

Andrew, who has published books on the landscapes and wildlife of his home county, said: “It was worth getting up early. It was a really beautiful dawn and pre dawn.”

While the West Midlands has experienced a cold spell in recent days, forecasters today insisted that talk of a return of another Beast from the East is premature.

Milder weather is returning this week, although there is a chance of a chillier spell later in the month because polar air is likely to move in.

But forecaster Hannah Findley, of The Weather Channel, said nothing is certain and added: “Short term models do not indicate this cold air setting up during the first half of January, and temperatures are expected to remain around normal for the time of year.”
