Rotary support for Shrewsbury food bank and hub to continue until end of June
A Rotary club is continuing to make a monthly donation of £1,000 to assist with the growth in use of a food bank and hub in Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club’s support of both will continue to the end of June, members have announced.
The monthly donation continues to include members’ subscriptions which would have paid for meals if the club was meeting in person.
Rotarian John Yeomans, chair of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s community and vocational committee, said he had been in touch with Karen Williams, Shrewsbury Foodbank Plus project lead.
She confirmed they are experiencing growing use of their services and expect further growth as the furlough scheme is phased out.
Karen said: “This funding is vital for us to offer the holistic service to our clients.
"Not only do we offer non-perishable food, but also fresh fruit and vegetables, household items along with cleaning products and hygiene products.
“We’re currently providing food for in excess of 120 individuals every week and have been supporting those living in temporary accommodation such as the Travelodge during the pandemic.
“The support from organisations such as Rotary allow us to plan and serve our clients well, offering a sense of dignity and hope.”
Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club also continues to support the food hub in the town which collects excess supermarket food for redistribution.
