BBC Shropshire's Faith Page and her horse Marley will be riding the length of Shropshire in support of Shrewsbury Food Hub, a charity which aims to stop surplus food from going to waste.

Faith is also looking to use the opportunity to to raise awareness of the importance of protecting Shropshire’s bridleways for safe riding.

She said: “Marley and I will start in Llanfair Waterdine on May 1 – heading off on the Jack Mytton Way and then onto the Humphrey Kynaston Way with stop-offs at Lydbury North, All Stretton, Pontesbury, and Nesscliffe, finishing in Bettisfield on May 5."

Although not sharing a tent, they’ve kindly been offered camping spots by friends each night along the route.

Faith's challenge is part of the FoodHub5 initiative, which is part of the charity's fifth birthday celebrations and aims to raise money to support its work. Since it started, the hub has grown tenfold, saving 140 tonnes of food from the tip last year.

Several other hardy souls are also testing their fitness with FoodHub5 challenges throughout the month of April.

Food hub worker Pippa Lobban and her mum Diane have been running and walking long distances each day.

Retired marketing manager Larry King cycled the A-Z of Shropshire towns.

Michael Carding, tower captain of the Holy Trinity Church in Meole Brace, is climbing many of Shropshire’s towers – 5,000 steps. He will be climbing St Mary’s, Shrewsbury Abbey and Lord Hill Column, among others. Shrewsbury Food Hub co-founder Ali Thomas is running 5km a day, five days a week throughout April.
