A leading expert on the causes of child sexual exploitation will give a talk about his work next month.

David Spicer, whose report on 700 victims was debated in parliament in June this year, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of Shropshire Humanists on November 15.

The retired barrister published his report in February following the joint serious case review into sexual exploitation of children and vulnerable adults in Newcastle upon Tyne. His review included national and local recommendations for government.

His review followed a criminal investigation in the city which resulted in 22 offenders being sentenced to a total of 28 years in prison.

Richard Burnham of Shropshire Humanists said Mr Spicer's talk would look at the process of reviewing such cases.

"He will consider what makes victims vulnerable and the profiles of abusers, the role of communities, and the recommendations on how this serious abuse may be earlier identified or prevented."

The talk will be held at the University Centre in the Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, starting at 7.30pm, with tea and coffee served from 7pm.
