Shrewsbury's Morris Lubricants is main sponsor of the competition at the Greenhous West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury, which coincides with the first day of the Shropshire County Show on May 27.

The tractor pulling event, hosted by Malpas Tractor Pulling Club, is the first of five rounds of the British championship and is expected to attract more than 30 competitors from across the UK in seven classes. The sport involves competitors sitting on their powerful tractors pulling a sledge weight along a 100-metre track.

Competitors will collect points in the Super Farm, Limited Prostock, Prostock, Supersport and 2.5 tonnes modified classes of British Championship. The 2.5 tonne modified class is new addition to the event this year and will see tractors with two or three engines, which run on methanol, competing.

A demonstration class will feature Legend and Hero, a tractor producing up to 2,500 horse power.

Morris Lubricants' range of products includes lubricants for tractors and agricultural and horticultural machinery. Sales staff will be manning the company’s marquee at the show.

Managing director Andrew Goddard said: “We are delighted to again sponsor the first round of the British championship, which is right on our doorstep in Shrewsbury. We hope the opportunity to see these powerful tractors in action will generate a lot of interest at the show and encourage many of the spectators to return on the Sunday."
